Sorry, we have been out of town on vacation and I didn't get a chance to update (my little brother's) Elder Delgado's blog. Here are his last 2 e-mails:
Another Week In The Life- Monday, August 23, 2010
Hello everybody!
Well, it was another great week out here in Georgia. The weather hasn't cooled off yet but I'm really hoping that it does soon. haha, that heat is a killer to our energy levels. Anyways... We had some wonderful things happen this week. Cynthia, I think I told you about her last week, has a baptismal date for September 11th. We feel she will be ready for that day. She is sweet with a real desire to move forward.
So this week I had the opportunity to have Elder Sieverts come to my area for an exchange. It was great having him around again. I can see the great growth he has gone through since the first day that I met him. We had some wonderful success and were able to share some wonderful spiritual experiences together. I wont be suprised to see him become a very influential person in life.
On thursday I got to work with Elder Blair! haha, man! we always have a blast when we work together. It was good to see all the investigators that I was teaching before and to see how much the area is thriving now! We had the chance to go and teach Marcel and her family together as well as another Venezuelan family! haha. It was great and we really had a great time. The only thing is that bike is terrible! Maybe... I am just to fat! that is probably it.
On Friday I had the opportunity to go and work with Elder Mundt. It is great to see how far he has come along now. He has changed alot. I am grateful to see how the gospel changes all those who truly embrace it for the better. It was a great experience and we were able to see some of his top investigators. It was great.
I also had a wonderful opportunity while I was there to be re-united with some members that I was very close to when I first came into the mission. I got to see Maria Lopez and Isabel Solis. I was so happy to see them! We got to talk as we had dinner together and they shared great gratitude for the things I had done for them. I felt so humbled and truly felt appreciation for their sacrifices in life. They are both converts, they have been in the church for almost two years now.
I was flattered by their kind words and touched as Isabel shared with me how she had been sealed in the temple with her family. I felt the spirit so strongly as she described her experience and what had happened. It was a true witness that this is what it is all about. I gained a greater appreciation for the reality of Eternal Families and a deep sense of peace knowing that my family is sealed to one another.
I see such strong converts and it gives me a firm hope that this is possible. That we can all make it through the hard times that we have in life and that as we root ourselves into the gospel we will be able to find peace and comfort in knowing we are doing as God expects of us. I can't wait to return to the areas I have served in and see those people who have changed my life and see how they are doing.
Sunday was a wonderful day to end the week. We had President King speak to us as well as his son Collin who just returned from the Puerto Rico, San Juan West Mission. While at Northpoint we were able to meet with a wonderful man named Jessie Lee. He has been investigating the church for quite some time and we feel that he is taking the right steps in his life. We are praying to understand how to help him.
The night was sad as a member informed us of the unexpected passing of their husband. We entered the home where tears filled everyone's eyes. I felt so helpless knowing that I have never experienced such a loss as their's. We sat in silence for a while before we administered a blessing. I was grateful for the experience that occurred soon after. The spirit was able to move upon me and I felt the love Heavenly Father had for this woman. I felt her pain in such a real and intense form and knew that these trials would deeply effect the family for an extended period of time. I felt peace as the Spirit confirmed the plan of salvation to my heart and was able to feel things I never had before. We left with a broken heart. However, we knew that we had done what was asked of us.
So, that is my week! It was pretty intense. This week we have a ton of things to do! Elder Carnley is begining to look at classes that he wants to take and getting ready to register for spring semester. Makes me realize how close we are getting. We have a Mini Zone Conference on wednesday that Elder Carnley and I are holding. We have felt some great impressions come in preparing and feel this will be a powerful experience. Oh... and today... is Zone P-day... we are going to play dodge ball! haha. yes!
Anyways... I love you. Remember to share the spirit with others and to do some good in the world whenever you have the chance. Be safe! my prayers are with you.
Much Love,
Elder Erick Delgado
21 in 3 weeks?- Monday, August 16, 2010
Hey everybody!
How is everyone doing? I am doing well! I love being out here. It has gotten really hot lately and it makes it hard to be energetic all the time. Man, the sun can really take it out of you! haha. It is all good though! We have found some great people recently.
Anyways... I was looking at this transfer and realized that I turn 21 in like 3 weeks! holy cow i'm old! I still feel like a am an 18 year old high school boy! I am so not ready to be responsible! haha. I guess that growing old is mandatory in life... but growing up isn't! haha. plan on keeping my youth in my heart!
So, for those of you who are thinking about sending birthday presents... I would just reccomend not to worry about it cause I will be home soon and whatever I get sent to me will have to go home soon after. It will just make things tough. Ya know? besides, I dont really need anything. I am stocked to the max with all the missionary things that i need. I even have 4 suits! haha. So, I love you all for the thought... cause I know you've been thinking about me. =) But dont worry about sending anything!
Well, as for missionary work... It has been going awesome! I learn new things everyday it feels like. I have really come to love Georgia like my home. I think it will be hard for me to leave it. So don't be to suprised if I come back soon after! haha. This week we have found some wonderful people to share the gospel with.
There is a young woman who is a part member situation. She did not have the opportunity to really look into the church when her family joined about a year ago. She has been coming to church and really shows interest in learning more about the gospel. This week we had the opportunity to teach her for the first time. It was great! The family was so supportive and wonderful as they bore their testimonies of their conversions.
I get blown away how well prepared some people are for the gospel in this world. She is very accepting and I wouldnt be suprised to see her have the desire to be baptized soon. I love to see those who are willing to learn! It has been such a blessing as a missionary. I have seen some serious miracles and met people who were truly waiting for the gospel in their lives.
Marcel and her family continue to move forward in the gospel. They are great! since week 1 that they were found they have been commited to learning. Must be that Venezuelan blood line. haha. Seriously though, it has been 7 straight weeks of them coming to church and they have the desire to be baptized. Thankfully a man named Chris Taylor lives in the branch. He is a lawyer and is going to do his best to help out her husband who is being detained by the police. PRAY FOR THEM!
Another sweet experience we had this week was with a woman named Karina. She was found last night while knocking some doors. We spoke outside for about 3 minutes when she invited us in! Come to find out that she has many questions about life and what her purpose is. She has a great faith but feels she needs to find more. She comes from a Catholic background but some family had introduced her to another christian religion. She visited a few times and enjoyed it.
We spoke about Christ and his role. What we are to do here in this life and how we make covenants. We soon found out that she had never been baptized before. This was wonderful because you could see her great desire to follow Christ and wanting to be baptized. We feel she has been placed in our path by the Lord and we think we will see some great things happen from this. Pray we can help her as best we can!
Anyways... that is the week. Nothing else to exciting really happened. I hope all is well! I love you all! I hope to hear from you soon!
Much Love,
Elder Erick Delgado
